Web3 Watch: Sui Launches Handheld Web3 Gaming Device
First there was Solana Saga, and now there is Sui SuiPlay0X1.
Sui developer Mysten Labs is betting on this, announcing the upcoming launch of a handheld gaming device that will be natively integrated with the Sui blockchain. Sui said the product will be built with Playtron’s device-agnostic gaming operating system.
A marketing video released by Sui shows a slick, PlayStation Portable-like device, but it's still early days for the actual gaming handheld, which won't be available until 2025.
Official news about the launch remains relatively scarce, although VentureBeat reported some details based on interviews with executives involved in the collaboration. The device is designed to integrate Sui wallets for users at the operating system level, so game developers can provide services such as airdrop rewards directly to users.
But the basic design choice of which chip to use is still to be determined, according to VentureBeat. A spokesperson for Sui did not immediately respond to a request for more information.
Solana’s Saga phone had a lackluster launch, but later gained traction among crypto-native users due to a BONK airdrop offered by the protocol for developing mobile apps.

Like Solana, Mysten is also working with external developers on its handheld Web3 products. Playtron is a handheld gaming software startup that emerged from stealth with a $10 million funding round about two weeks ago. Mysten Labs, along with Polychain, Circle, and CMT Digital, are among the cryptocurrency companies that have made investments, The Verge reported.
Playtron’s specialty is its operating system that supports games from different platforms, perhaps opening up the notoriously siloed gaming space.

Bored & Hungry, a burger restaurant based in Long Beach, California, is closing about two years after its founding in 2022. The store, branded with Bored Ape NFTs, is said to be owned by founder Andy Nguyen, and some customers can pay with APE tokens.
But that’s not the end of the story. Bored & Hungry has also opened three stores in the Philippines and one in South Korea. The burger chain’s brand has been acquired by Seoul-based Hungry DAO. Nguyen said at X that the company will open pop-up stores in Hong Kong, Singapore and Dubai this year.
